-Combat Report-

Sunday 6-16-08

Another GREAT day of combat.
It was raining when I arrived at the field. "Where is Justin" became the cry of the afternoon. Being that He was tied with Andrew for Combat leader, We all expected him to defend his title.

The RAIN wasn't stopping Andrew, He was test flying his coro trainer in the rain.

That LONG walk to get your plane becomes a lot longer in the rain.

Not wanting to let Andrew have all the fun, I got out the coro delta wing.
I fired up the engine, handed Fritz the transmitter, threw it out in the rain.
It goes 10 ft then SPLAT!!!
Needs more up throw!
Try again,
Flies GREAT.
Fritz said " Don't Touch Anything!!"

WE could have had the first round of combat in the rain, but we waited for it to Quit.

Tim tried a test flight on his combat wing.
TJR was on the hand-launch, He looked like he was skipping rope as the plane ground looped in.
We took a time out so Tim could fix his plane.
So, with extra time before Combat,

I added two 3 ft. sticks to the wing of the Delta wing, ( For added stability) just before combat.

ROUND ONE - Not much action in round one, My motor over heated with 2:00 min. remaining. Some how Andrew was the only plane flying for the last 2 min.

ROUND TWO - A lot of action in round two. A NEW combatter was flying an electric Spitfire Foamy thing. He went into combat knowing We got points for hitting others planes. His streamer didn't unwrap. He still put up a good fight and finished the round. At the end of round two,( after Don subtracted one point for my Imaginatory finish of round one) Andrew was tied with Fritz and I for 1st.

ROUND THREE - A lot of action, four planes going at it. No cuts. With 30 sec. left, It LOOKS like we might out last Andrew, When I hear a loud THUMP.
CONTACT with Andrew. One of my 3 ft. sticks is GONE.

Fritz Yells " I can only turn Left" as he holds a full right Rudder ( I didn't have the heart to tell him there is no rudder on that plane)
"Pretend it's NASCAR" I said as the plane continued turning left, It finally made a left turn into the ground.
It doesn't fly well with just one stick.

Meer seconds after my midair with Andrew, BOOM, I look up to see Andrew in a Flat spin, with balsa & foam chips raining down from his plane.
He pulls out of the flat spin with the canopy of the foamy spitfire lodged into his wing.
( I hope the New Guy comes back.)

That's TWO midairs (ONLY two of the day) in the last 30 sec.

Andrew hit the foamy with 3 sec. left on the clock.
Don said "All the pieces were still flying (Falling) at the end of the round, So the foamy got one point for "finishing" the round.

So, Andrew was KING of the day. @#&%$$@

I think we should take up a collection , $5.00 a pilot, And give it to" Whoever" takes OUT Andrew!!

A GREAT TIME was had by all.

Added by Don Koval:
We had four pilots on this Father's Day Combat.

Andrew Smith,Tim McLeod, Robert Sanderson, and Billy Toliver..

This was Billy's first time in combat, and I was sad to see his plane get "TOTALED OUT" in the last few seconds of the last round.......

Andrew Smith took the win with 5 points Robert and Billy had 2 points each to tie for 2nd place...........

Thanks to the spotters for your help
