Monthly Club Meetings:

ACMA’s regularly scheduled meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at the Golden Corral Buffet Restaurant in Tillmans Corner. The restaurant is located on Halls Mill Road near Range Line Road, Interstate I-10 and the Wall Mart Super Center. Here’s a map.

Meetings start at 7:00 PM. Many of us come around 6:00 to eat first. After you walk in past the cashiers, there’s a meeting room on the right. Prospective members and guests are always welcome to join us!

Membership Procedure:

First get your AMA Insurance License, a requirement:

To become a member of the Azalea City Model Aeronautics, you must first obtain an insurance license from the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). The AMA is the parent organization of all AMA Chartered Clubs nation-wide. Your AMA membership allows you to fly at any other AMA chartered club field in the US, at the discretion of that club.

Annual AMA dues, which includes its monthly magazine Model Aviation, are $58.00 for adults (19 years of age, or older), $48.00 for seniors (65 years of age, or older), and $15.00 for juniors (18 years of age, or younger). The junior rate without a magazine is only $1.00 per year.

To get general information about the RC hobby and instructions on how to join the AMA, visit the AMA Website.

-----------------

ACMA Club Dues - New Members:

First you must have your valid, up-to-date AMA card, available from the AMA Website shown above. Then you fill out a club application form, which you can get at the Irvington flying field, by contacting Frits Jetten, the club’s New Member Contact (email: fjetten@aol.com), or at one of our monthly meetings.

If you have trouble acquiring a paper membership application, or if this is easier, you can print your own copy of the ACMA Membership Application, after you click here. Be sure you come back here to read the rest of this section.

You can pay the dues anytime during the year. The total will vary. Here’s how to calculate it. Take the $50.00 initiation fee, then ADD the number of months remaining in the year TIMES $8.00. Please pay by check only.

Have a club member sign as your sponsor, or Frits Jetten can sign as your sponsor. You can give the completed application form with a check for the dues, made out to ACMA, to the club Treasurer at the next club meeting. It is preferred that the applicant and his/her sponsor attend that first meeting.

IMPORTANT! YOU MUST READ and agree to abide by the AMA Safety Rules and the ACMA Club Rules. Both are posted at the field pavilion. The ACMA club rules are also shown farther down.

-----------------

ACMA Club Dues – Special Rates.

Special rates apply to: Junior Members (18 years of age, or younger) and a Second Family Member (spouse or offspring of an adult club member, 19 years of age, or older)

The annual dues for Junior Members is $24.00. There is no $50.00 initiation fee. Members younger than 16 years of age will not have voting privileges.

The annual dues for a Second Family Member is half the normal $96.00 dues, $48.00. There is no $50.00 initiation fee.

IMPORTANT! YOU MUST READ and agree to abide by the AMA Safety Rules and the ACMA Club Rules. Both are posted at the field pavilion. The ACMA club rules are also shown farther below.

-----------------

Flying as a guest of ACMA:

Visitors may fly at Irvington Field as a guest of a responsible club member, or ask permission by contacting the club President, Enzo Finizola, (251) 661-4257, email: enzof1@bellsouth.net; or the Vice President/Safety Officer, Tony Farmer, (251) 661-0444, email: mrclarklift@yahoo.com.

To fly as a guest at our field you MUST have a valid AMA license. You may fly several times per year. However, if you become a frequent flier, you will soon be asked to join our club, which is only fair!
Guest pilots must read and abide by the AMA Safety rules and the ACMA Club Rules. Both are posted at the field pavilion. The ACMA club rules are also shown below.

Safety and Courtesy Rules - Irvington Field

1. Open flames and smoking are not allowed anywhere on Irvington Field except in the pavilion and in the area between the pit fence and the parking area. (Feb. 2002.)

2. All AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) safety code rules apply at Irvington Field, and during club events. The rules are posted in the pit area.

3. Only members of the AMA can fly at this flying site. Exceptions are newcomers who can fly with an ACMA member on a buddy-box for one flight only. Prospective members must apply for AMA membership immediately, even prior to becoming an ACMA member.

4. All transmitters must be impounded until the frequency pin can be obtained. No transmitters will be turned on unless the flier holds the frequency pin, and has posted his current AMA card on the frequency pin board. There is a 20-minute time limit on anyone holding a frequency pin.

5. Only narrow-band transmitters are allowed at Irvington Field. A frequency analyzer has shown that Channel 11 gets interference from an unknown source.

6. All non-electric powered models will have a functional muffler to reduce noise, unless they comply with the maximum 98 dB limit. The safety officer may rule on the question of noise. (Aug. '99.)

7. When starting engines, models should be pointed in the direction of the runway, with props aligned along the pit area's east edge. Engines may not be started on the workbenches in the shed.

8. All model aircraft shall be started with someone other than the pilot holding the plane, or with the use of a passive restraint. The restraining device shall be sturdy enough to restrain the aircraft at full throttle. (Mar. '98.)

9. No plane or helicopter may taxi between the pit area and the runway. Planes that are too large or too heavy to be safely carried or pushed may be taxied from either end of the pit area to the nearest taxiway. You must set up your field equipment at that end of the pit area. Taxiing between the taxiways and the center of the pit area is not permitted.

10. All powered aircraft must take off from, and land on the runway. This includes hand-launched models.

11. No more than five models will be flown at the same time, except during special club events. Pilots will stand on designated pads and should have an observer with them. No more than two observers may stand with a pilot while his or her plane is flying (includes instructor).

12. Because of the close proximity of the neighboring residence, there will be absolutely no flying allowed on the pit side (west) of the runway. Under no circumstances will pilots stand east of the runway and fly facing west to avoid looking into the morning sun.

13. High speed, low altitude passes over the asphalt runway are not allowed. Flying at high speed over the asphalt runway at an altitude lower than 50 ft. is prohibited.

14. Long duration engine runs (break-ins), and engine troubleshooting are to be accomplished at the downwind end of the pit fence.

15. Alcoholic beverages may not be consumed before a pilot flies at the field on a given day, and are not allowed east of the fence.

16. Flying must be postponed while grass cutting or any other maintenance is in progress east of the pit area. This includes maintenance done by ACMA members or County personnel.

17. Unsupervised children and pets are not allowed beyond the spectator areas, in the pit areas, around the pilot stations, on the runway, and in the entire area east of the runway.

18. Fliers will refrain from buzzing any birds, horses, pigs or other animals that may stray into the over-fly areas, or that may be present in the south portion of the landfill not leased by ACMA.
