===================================================
RC STUFF FOR SALE has been moved to the end of this report.
===================================================
You may have noticed a couple of changes in the appearance of the last
Pits
Report. And you will see more in future reports. As you know, Alvin
Reed has
for many years been our longtime club Webmaster,
He has turned in his final
notice, so to speak, and is turning over his duties to Andrew
Smith.
Andrew will take over the ACMA club Website, which will continue
to offer
most features you were used to. As I get updates from Andrew or Alvin
I will pass
those on to you. Alvin will continue to support and maintain the Mobile
Area
RC Model Aviation Forum.
From what I've seen so far, the already great Website that Alvin
had created
will be replaced by an even better one. Please be patient while Andrew
works
on this project!

ACMA Field Activities - November 22 & 23 - Pensacola Jets Fly-in
Not too much going on at the field last weekend. Saturday was rather
dull. Very boring!
Reasons? Windy, cold, a ball game, perhaps a NASCAR race,
and the Pensacola Jets Fly-in. In spite of all that Roger Hagler and
a few
club other members made it to Nevarre, Florida, where the jets fly-in
was being
held. Club members
Rob Baker, Jon Koppisch and Bill Culberson flew their jets.
Rob's wife Kari ran a pizza stand, according to Roger.
Roger took the pictures
. Thanks!
On Sunday only a few people showed up at our field. Mike McLaughlin
had
rebuilt his Irish Axe.
He flew a successful test flight, as shown in this video.
Russ Green flew his Battle Axe also. Or was it the similar-looking
Phence Post?
Hard to tell the difference... Alvin made a couple of nice flights
with his
renovated Raptor Titan.
Yes, really! Here's proof.
He did more than hover, also
managing several nice loops, rolls and autorotations. I took a video,
but it
turned out terrible. (Not Alvin's flight, my video...)
That reminds me. Remember Emile
Sheriff? He flew a couple of nice helicopters
during our recent Scale
Fly-in. A couple of days ago I saw a picture of Emile
Sheriff at the NATS in the November issue of Model Aviation magazine.
He's
the tallest one close to the center.
David Lanzo showed
up. You remember him, don't you? — He is one of our
EX-instructors... After being away for so long, I was surprised that
he found his
way to the field. David tried to get back in the groove by instructing
himself
on his son's trainer!
Once he got the hang of it, he flew his Twist.
Successfully, I might add!...
There was some discussion going on about cameras. Seems like David
is getting
into the big stuff.
He got advice from Jeff Foster and Dean Ritola, who both
carry around cameras that look like bazookas. Russell and Frits mostly
stayed
out of the conversation.
Dean took a picture of these "blue
herons." That's
what Dean thinks they were. (Frits insists they were storks, cranes
or geese, as
they were flying with their necks outstretched. Herons and egrets
fly with
their necks in an S-shape...)
David also got newcomer Richard Ross' Alpha trainer ready, something
that was
very much appreciated by Frits. Richard has never flown RC planes
before and
only spent limited time on flight simulators. And then he used the
keyboard
keys as controls! He had done RC cars, however. It showed, as he had
no problem
with that left-right reversal phenomenon everyone goes through at
first. Frits
took him up twice, and Richard had great flights, only interrupted
a few
times by Frits showing Richard how to improve his turns.
I was told that sometime during the week, Russell Ward flew Johnny
Jones'
electric CAP-232, but again, I have no photographic proof.
Elton had brought his
dark blue Slow Stick to fly...
Wayne Miller showed up with his Sopwith Pup
biplane. He had a good flight. I apologize for not taking a better
picture...
Jonathan Festa had fixed the problem with his giant scale Extra-260's
engine. Or
so he thought! The 3W-100 twin-cylinder engine did not perform right
and after
one brief flight, powered by only one cylinder, Jonathan had to put
it down
and away.
Lee Hughes brought his nice Revolver aerobatics plane, the one Frits
had
test-flown just one week earlier. Lee took it off and had a rather
good flight,
but the landing ended up in a big bounce that reduced the Revolver's
prop length
and broke off the main gear. There was damage to the bottoms of both
wings.
One of the gear actually pushed through the wing, but it appears to
be an easy
fix...
Roger Hagler flew his little DeBolt Champ... Andrew Smith flew his
Ugly Stick
and the electric Swift II flying wing. Andrew and Mike provided all
the
action on Sunday by chasing each other around the field again. Andrew
was flying
his Stick and Mike flew his Ultra
Sport. This video shows you the action.
They
came close a few times...
That's it for now. Fly SAFE!
